Ellie joined the Paddington Station Board in 2014. As a board member, she does her best to be supportive and involved with this fine educational program. For 30 years, Ellie was employed at the University of Denver as an Associate Professor of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies and Dean of the Morgridge College of Education. Some of the programs she helped start are University for Youth, Destination Imagination, and Ricks Center for Gifted Children.
WHAT I DO……
For as long as I can remember, I always enjoyed being with children or working with them. My teaching career began with a 3rdgrade class of students in New York City. Soon after we moved to California, Ohio and Colorado, and I continued teaching during each move. In Colorado, I wanted to teach in a Special Needs Classroom, so I went to the University of Denver for a Master’s Degree in Special Education and continued on to graduate with a Doctoral degree in Educational Psychology. The University of Denver offered me many opportunities to teach and organize educational programs. I was involved in Gifted and Talented Education and Educational Leadership and Policy Studies. Many of my graduate students have become successful educational leaders including Deb Deverell.
WHY I DO…….
Several years ago, Deb Deverell invited me to join the Paddington Preschool Board of Trustees. This was another opportunity to work with children, parents and the community. I believe it is important to give back to the community and what better way than to work with the education of young children. Paddington is a very special place for a child to grow and learning in a play based environment. One of my favorite Paddington projects has been the Outdoor Classroom and Playground. As a member of the Paddington Board, I see bright times ahead and I will do what I can to assist with a successful future.
