Sammie grew up in North Carolina and earned her BS in Elementary Education with a concentration in mathematics. She taught fourth grade for a year in Charlotte before joining her twin sister in Colorado. She then nannied for a year before becoming a preschool teacher for four years at Mount Saint Vincent. I grew up in a family of seven and helped my younger siblings with their math homework growing up so they wouldn’t have to bother my dad. That was my first experience with teaching! I loved providing an environment for my sisters where they felt comfortable to ‘mess up’ and talk through their way of thinking with me. I also loved finding different ways to explain a concept that would make sense to the multiple ways of thinking.

When I started college, I worked at a daycare part-time. That provided me with a wonderful introduction with younger kiddos! Little did I know that I would end up working exclusively with those younger ages within the next five years.

Helping kiddos work through their big emotions is one of my favorite things to do. When you remember how intensely you have felt certain emotions at times and realize that they are feeling that way in that moment (no matter what they are feeling about), it gives so much perspective and helps to mold your response to walk the kiddo through the emotion. I love helping kiddos realize their potential and their independence so they can keep growing into wonderful humans!
